Hi

Went to Manchester Road Inf & Jnrs, left in June 1962 in the third year when parents moved to Guernsey.  Remember Mrs Gleave well - and wasn't the head mistress of the Infants Miss Cleeves?  My last teacher was Miss Bennett.  Love to hear from any oldies who remember me.

I went to Manchester Road from 1971-78 and remember teachers such as mrs. walstow, from the infants and in the juniors i had miss walker who left to be replaced by the head masters wife Mrs. Richards. Before the end of the first year she was replaced by miss. Martin. In the second year i had Mr. Beaumont who nick-named me Tug, a name i am still known as today. In the third year it was over to the pre-fabs with Mr. Pickford and the fourth year i had Mrs. Ludlow. Good Days. I remember trips to London and Trentham Gardens on double decker Maynes buses with the headmaster Mr. Smith who use to sing 'in the quarter-master's store'. I remember when the lads use to recreate the scenes from the old Kippax and stretford end stands in the shelter with the scarves and flags flying and every body use to get un trouble for acting like football hooligans.

I was at Manchester Road school from 1954 to 1955, having previously been at Seymour Road school in Clayton, even though I only lived on Manor Road. I joined Mr. Gordon's class and moved on to Mr. Richard's class. I then moved on to Audenshaw Grammar School in 1955. I have had several careers: as a PhD Chemist in pharmaceutical research; as a Human Resources Director; running my own recruitment business. My retirement job is as an antiques dealer.

I loved Manchester Road School (most of the time) when I attended between 1957 and 1964. The teachers were a dedicated bunch, if a little fierce on occasion. We didn't have today's resources, but many of us have done very well in life, and the School deserves to be thanked from us all!

Only just seen this website-as I have been using 'Friends Re-united'-dissapointed that there's not much feedback from people of my own age who attended the infant/junior schools from the early 70's to the beginning of the 80's....but wonderfull to see that some of the first class teachers that we had, had been there for a long time. My best teacher was Mr Beaumont, who used to send one of our class into the butchers on the way back from the baths for some Tripe. I was always terrified of my 'times tables' recitals at the front of the class-and the way he would throw the board rubber or chalk at anyone who talked during lessons!!!I also remember the free milk we had and how Mr Beaumont showed us how to make butter from the cream off the top of the milk one day. The school plays(George & the Dragon etc)Choir practise and how Mrs Pugh used to patrol the choir making sure everyone was singing(and not miming!)I loved the hymms we'd sing at assembly(with the overhead projector) and how the worst punishment in the world was to be made to 'stand on the line'......oh I could go on and on....but if anyone wants to swop memories please get in touch!!!!

I was at Manchester Road from 1949 to 1956. I remember some twit challenging me to a fight on my very first day. I ended up in Miss Tegg's office - ran home in tears. But after that it wasn't so bad. In the juniors who remembers the trip along the Manchester Ship Canal in the SS Egremont. We then went on the over head railway in Liverpool (now gone), and travelled home on the train. What a great day and all for 13/6!

I left manchester road in 1996 and moved to cheshire in 97. I really enjoyed my school days at mcr rd howvever much trouble I used to get in! Like the time when I was in year 3 and I broke my nose - I got rushed to the staff room in the junior block and all the teachers nearly fainted! My favorite teachers were Miss May & Mrs Slater when I was in the infants. Mrs Slater took our class for year 2 and liked us that much that she took us for most of year 3 too! In the juniors my favourite teacher was Mrs Feeley because she helped me understand some ear ops that I had to have - we had a lesson on how we can hear things! Dont suppose you remember Mrs Feeley?
Now i'm working within the hospitals as an auxillary nurse and loving it. Will be going to nursing college next year hopefully to become a qualified RGN! Thanks to all the teachers at manchester road who made my time there a happy time!

I was a pupil at both the infants and junior schools from 1958 to 1965. I then went to Littelmoss. I was in Mr. Beaumonts class for my top juniors. He was a great bloke, good story teller. Does anyone remember him making a cats whisker radio? Funnily enough many years later in 1991 I met him in Failsworth and we keep in touch. I have many happy memories of my time at Manchester Road. Especially the two trips to Paris with Mr Davies. If you remember those trips, you might recall that on one of thekm Alan Roberts (later to be MP for Bootle) came while he was a student teacher. Those two holidays are still very fresh in my mind, even after nearly forty years. Eventually my son, Andrew came to Manchester Road 1980-87 and my daughter Claire started at Manchester Road in 1985. Hopefully the school will be there for many more generations to come. Good luck to you all.

I attended M/c Rd Infants & Primary schools from 1949-56. I have class photo's of Mrs Vine (formerly Miss Bailey ) 1953 and Mr Richards class 1956. With the help of Carole Ryder (maiden name) we have managed to put names to all but 2 of the faces. If anyone reading this would care to have copies of these photo's please e-mail me and I will e-mail a copy to you. One of the years at M/r Rd I was in the overflow class at St Andrews on Edge Lane where a few of us would buy 5 woodbines (ciggies) and hide them in the roof of the boy's toilets out in the playground. Problem was when it rained they got wet and we had to put them in the oven to dry. My, were they ever strong after that. Maybe thats why I no longer smoke.Hope to hear from anyone who remembers me.

Joined the infant school in 1945 and left the juniors in 1951 to go to Audenshaw Grammar. I remember Mrs. Whalley who was our first year juniors teacher, Miss Hallows wuth her infamous ruler (how she got away without breaking somebody's fingers I shall never know), Mr.Crowther the music teacher and Mr.Wolfendon who could be quite moody at times.
I really enjoyed being at the school and played for the football team in my last year.

I was at Manchester Road from 1953 to 59 and still have my autograph book from my leaving. Nice how traditions continue though my lad had a sweat shirt signed at junior school and his white shirt signed at secondary.

Mr E Gleave the Headmaster signed with the school motto which was the other way round from the first post on this guestbook. "Work while you work; Play while you play." Other teachers signing were N Richards who was always as smart as in the class photo on the site, Miss Hallows, Mr Mallea (hard to read teh signature (I remember him very clearly, very enthusiastic strong on english and had pupils writing books which he kept for future classes to read and I remember with price him telling me that mine were well read!), Christine Windle, Ms Turner, Mr Wright. Mrs J Stait, Mrs D McNulty, JA Wolfenden, Mr G Woodhall

It is also signed by mates, Steve Grimshaw, Ken Moth, Keth Bradshaw, Barry Tetlow, Keith Hull, L (Lesley?) Cope,

I was one of 6 boys passing the 11 plus ( presumambly at least as many girls, probably more) We all went to Audenshaw Grammar and I clearly remember Mr Gleave calling us into a meeting in his office to impress on us that we had a great opportunity and should make sure we didn't waste it.

Mr Gleave was a lightly built very distinguished man and an ardent pipesmoker.

I attended Manchester Road Primary School in the 1960's. Starting in the infant section possible 1961.I do have some memories which might be worth sharing with others. How many pupils can remember the motto on the wall in the hall of the junior school? As far as I can reemeber it was 'Play while you play. Work while you work.' It makes sense now but back then well! I played the violin having been introduced to the instrument at school the teacher was Leonard Hough. I went on to play in my youth in many orchestras including the Manchester Schools symphony, Lancashire schools symphony but this is now part of my past life. I now teach and have been doing so for 20 years. I do have some photographs that I should be able to seek out.
All the best
Adele.

I was at Manchester Rd from 1955 to 1962 when we moved to Ashton-Under-Lyne(shortly after I sat the 11-plus exam)
I should love to hear from anyone who may remember me. I lived in Shelley Grove and a few of the names I remember from those days are Gaynor Almond, Elaine Hunt and Karen Swan.
I'm now living near Colchester in Essex.

How wonderfull to finaly hear from somebody at the school. I would love to be in touch with other people who were there in the late 50's. Keep up the good work.
