My father was evacuated to Lytham St. Annes on 2/09/39. I am trying to find out any information of the school he was sent to. The school in the sun. I would love to be able to give my dad a history of the school.

Blast from the past! I was at mcr rd from 76-81. Remember Mr Pickford (jolly green giant), think I sat next to Judith in his class. Mrs Bird ,Miss Trill and Mr Blease (footy coach). I remember being a biscuit boy going round the classes selling crisps etc before break ( bet that's not allowed now) and being scared stiff going into Mr Beaumont's class to be made a fool of. Teds v froggits at break time when not playing utd v city at footy. Great memories.

Hello all, what a great site!... and a huge shock to see myself on one of the old photos in the archive pics!! lol Regarding J. Rothwells comments in the archived Guestbook, I agree - there doesn't seem to be many of us from early 70's to the beginning of the 80's. Amidst many fond memories, I too was fortunate enough to be taught by Mr. Beaumont. What a fantastic teacher he was! Put the fear oh God into me when I first encountered him (for talking in assembly!), and I spent the whole summer holidays panicking when I found out he was to be my teacher in the new term LOL! How wrong I was, he was the best teacher ever (not sure the boys who experienced his punishments would agree!). Pigs trotters were another of his favourites, which he used to send one of us into the butchers for on the way home from swimming. My mum still has the scarf he taught me to weave on the loom! Very best wishes to Manchester Road school and all its pupils, past and present, and congratulations on a great site! Judith Whitley (nee Strudwick)

in a previous email i mentioned a girl in one of my classes, vera bartrip, she was an evacuee who i became friends with. noone else has referred to evacuees nor is there a mention in the centenary book.i do not remember if it was at the start of the war or towards the end, when she came to the school. i can't even remember how long she stayed.
my name was gorrell when i was at school.
if anyone remembers anything about any evacuees i would be pleased to hear from them.

Reminder. Manchester Road Centenary day. Sat 14th July 12-4pm. Lots of activities, stalls, archive photos, memories. Come and look round your old school, meet other ex-pupils etc etc. Hundreds of people expected. No parking on Water Lane due to very limited space. Hope to see you all there.

Great reading through everyone's comments. Bringing back memories when I was there in the year 1952 through to juniors. Miss Summner especially brings back fond memories. Names of people that come back to me are Lynn Harrison, Lynn Pervical which are obviously maiden names mine being Elaine Holt from the Newsagents on Manchester Road.

My sister Beryl and I attended M/c. Rd. between 1942-1952 in fact we lived next door to the school as the back of our house backed on to Water Lane so there was never any excuse to be late. I remember the prefabs being built , my bedroom overlooked them, they were supposed to be only 'temporary'. As I lived so close to school and my elder sister was already a pupil I was a regular visitor 'via the back door' plying the infant teacher Miss Duncan with gifts of dandelions etc. just to get my feet under the table , it worked for most of the time.
We had some excellent teachers Miss Sumners, Miss Stait, Miss Hallows (very good with the cane on ones knuckles) Mr Richards, Mr Lawton who organised some fantastic trips, and our head Mr Gleave just to name a few.
I can remember in winter when we had snow and ice our playground would be awash with the most fantastic slides, and as we lived next to school it was also our playground at night.
The time we had at M/c Rd can only be described as truly wonderful and provided us with memories that will be with us for ever.
